Pc Experts please advise on GAIM/Messenger problem?

gaim is installed as a portable app on my usb stick and has worked well for 8 months. Suddenly it's stopped working however the problem is with my pc not with GAIM.

I can plug my usb stick into other pc's and gaim works.

Have now installed the newer version, pidgin on my pc but same problem. When I try to start it, it tells me it has requested the runtime environment to terminate it in an unusual way. (message box say's microsoft visual C++).

Here is the sequence which led to it's failure:

Re-installed o/s (windows xp) due to virus.

Gaim was working.

Downloaded ie7.

Gaim was working

Found problem with ie7, kept crashing on closure.

gaim was working.

Turned off gaim.

Downloaded windows live one care, ran virus check.

No probs, turned off add ons in ie7. Ie7 now works fine.

Since doing the above gaim has stopped working.

Can anyone give me a direction to look in to find the problem.

It's deffinitely a problem with my pc, not with gaim itself.

Problems accessing internet explorer sometines when i log on, what does this dialog box mean?
You only need to do a search on here to see how many people are having problems with IE7. The best thing to do is download Mozilla Firefox available from http://www.mozilla.com/ Its faster, more user friendly, easily customisable to suit your needs and no problems.
Reply:Just uninstall and reinstall.
Reply:This is typical if you have any toolbars installed for IE. Are you using Google's or Yahoo's? If so, remove them and see what happens.

Computer memory help?

Ok, I have a DELL Inspiron 600m laptop and recently I have been getting messages that say "Windows Low on Virtual Memory".

Then today I was trying to type something up in Microsoft Word, and a message came on the screen that said " Microsoft Visual C++ Library" as it' title and then it said "Runtime Error! Program : C: \Program Files\Microsoft Office\ Office 11\ WINWORD.EXE , abnormal program termination.

I deleted some programs and things, but that still didn't work. Does anyone else have this problem or know what is wrong? What should I do?

Computer memory help?
Try switching off some of the icons on the lower right of the screen! You may be running too many programs at once! If not, check your RAM count in MY computer! What is happening is your computer is trying to use memory from your hard drive! You may have a small hard drive, so utilize it well! If you have less than 512MB of RAM, try to get it to that number at least. Try to think about the programs that you really don't need, and uninstall them! Music videos, music, movies, pictures etc, think about those too! You more than likely can be suffering Internet clutter with temporary files, so go into the control panel, switch to category view and go into performance and maintenance . Clean your hard drive up! The number one reason why most computers slow down and start acting funny, is the lack of maintenance. Take care of your computer, so you can enjoy it for some time to come!
Reply:Increase the size of your pagefile. Here's how: Right-click on "My Computer" and click "Properties". Click the "Advanced" tab, and under "Performance" click the "Settings" button. Under the "Advanced" tab, under "Virtual Memory" click "Change". Here you can change the size of your pagefile. Choose a custom size and make it larger than your current settings. I'm not sure if it matters, but try to make the numbers a power of two. For example, 256, 512, 1024, 2048. This should eliminate any error messages about virtual memory.
Reply:Sounds like your machine is coming to the end of its career.

Your Hard drive may be failing. (common file access errors.)

Your Ram ma be failing (normally that results in a BSOF.)

Hard drive space is at a premium and the system has no room to write the swap file.

Desk errors are part of hard drive failure. (back up your personal files and reinstall to a new hard drive)

Regardless back up your personal files
Reply:you have to much software running at one time is the problem you need to buy more ram put more in the pc then you can run a lot of software at the same time
Reply:wat u need to do is buy more RAM which makes ur computer faster and able to run more programs at once.,.. when RAM(basically called virtual memory) gets low ur comp starts to go slow and cant run many programs at once so if u get more RAM and maybe some more hard drive space you should be fine.. hope this helped ya
Reply:You must upgrade your computer memory module

I believe you should get at least 1GB and that way you will definitely wont get that message

How do I save in Visual Basic?

First off, I don't want people criticising me about my title, I made it like that to attract more people.

Anyways, my question is, how can I specify where I save a text file (notes.txt), by typeing in the path?

So instead of

C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Pictures\notes.txt

I would like to change the file to this the location bellow...at runtime.

C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\VB Files\notes.txt

This is my original code:

Private Sub cmdSave_Click()

msgsave = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to save? Any previous data will be deleted.", 4 + 48, "Save?")

If msgsave = 6 Then

Open "C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Pictures\notes.txt" For Output As #1

Print #1, txtNotes.Text

Close #1

End If

End Sub

So I need a (possible simple) way to save my file to a new location anytime I want to while the program is running. If you have any questions just post them and I'll try to answer

How do I save in Visual Basic?
Here is some working code I wrote in VB5 (but it should work in v6). It opens a SAVEAS dialog box and defaults that dialog box to an INI type file. Then it writes specific info. to that file.

Private Sub Do_SaveConfig()

' Set CancelError is True

CommonDialog1.CancelError = True

On Error GoTo ErrHandler

' Set flags

CommonDialog1.Flags = cdlOFNHideReadOnly

' Set filters

CommonDialog1.Filter = "Config Files" %26amp; "(*.ini)|*.ini"

' Specify default filter

CommonDialog1.FilterIndex = 1

' Display the Open dialog box

CommonDialog1.ShowSave

' Display name of selected file

fn = CommonDialog1.FileName

If Dir(fn) %26lt;%26gt; "" Then

Kill fn

End If

fHnd = FreeFile()

Open fn For Output As #fHnd

Write #fHnd, "# This file may be discarded, safely."

Write #fHnd, "# Used by AREP Circuit Visual Calculator, only."

Write #fHnd,

Write #fHnd, "Opt_DACdec", Opt_DACdec.Value

Write #fHnd, "Txt_G1sense", Txt_G1sense.Text

Write #fHnd, "Txt_Gain1", Txt_Gain1.Text

Write #fHnd, "Txt_GainCode", Txt_GainCode.Text

Write #fHnd, "Txt_OffsetCode", Txt_OffsetCode.Text

Write #fHnd, "Txt_Rin", Txt_Rin.Text

Write #fHnd, "Txt_Rbias", Txt_Rbias.Text

Write #fHnd, "Txt_Roffset", Txt_Roffset.Text

Write #fHnd, "Txt_Vbias", Txt_Vbias.Text

Internet Explorer in Windows Vista?

I am getting the "Runtime Error Visual C" when I launch explorer. I have read on the Windows site they know of this problem, but don't have a solution. Anyone else have this problem and if so, do you know how to solve it?

Internet Explorer in Windows Vista?
Re install internet explorer, or better yet get firefox, which is a much better web browser.
Reply:It is ok. I think it is the Roxio software that is incompatible with Vista.

It is normal. You will seen stop receiving the error.

It happened to me, too.

How does one reload dot net?

this is one thing i was told to fix a visual runtime error c++

How does one reload dot net?
Goto control panel and un install all versions of the dotnet framwork and hotfixes starting with the highest versions working down to the lower versions. Uninstall hotfixes before the runtime version.

Then uninstall Visual Studio (if installed)

Goto Microsoft windows update (Custom) and under optional software add the dot net runtime starting at the lowest version and restart the PC after installing. Winupdate to get the hot fix and restart

Repeat WinUpdate for each version in ascending order followed by the hotfix.

After Dotnet runtimes have been reinstalled and patched you can then reinstall Visual Studio.

I recently reinstalled the Dot Net runtimes on a PC used for video editing. I initially loaded only the newest dot net runtime ver 3 thinking that it would cover the other versions....

WRONG.... I had to install the lower versions as well as some programs required ver 1 other required ver 2. I couldn't get a video editor driver to work with just ver 3 installed it need ver 2.

So to avoid problems I recommend that you install all versions of the dot net run time up to the highest version that you need.

Lexmark 2400 All-in-One giving me runtime error?
It's possible that the 2400 driver isn't compatible with Vista. I'd contact Lexmark tech support for guidance.

Is there a library header file i can download for C++, that will give me KeyHandling procedures.?

I want to ba able to detect key presses during runtime without the stoping the flow of execution. For e.g. "std::cout", waits for the user's input, and then the user has to press enter to register their input. I know that the standerd ANSI C++ library doesn't support the features what i'm looking for. Is it possible to download an external libarry with keyhandling procedures. If you know of any, please let me know. Also when adding external libraries to your sorce code, is it ok to just add the header file #include%26lt;somthing%26gt; or do u have to change some of the linker settings. I'm using visual C++ 2005 express edition if thats any help.

Is there a library header file i can download for C++, that will give me KeyHandling procedures.?
Actually, it is all built into existing libraries you already have.

Do a search in the help section of your tool for "_kbhit". It will give you a code snippet so that you can see how it works. You have to set up your own polling mechanism to wait for a keystroke but you can do a lot of other processing and then periodically check for a keystroke. It uses %26lt;conio.h%26gt;.

Alternatively if you are doing "forms" programing then you will want to use a keyboard control. You can read all about it in the help section. I did not spend much time looking but I'm sure you can find a code snippet there too.

Good luck!

I got this error on accessing my hard-drive?

Microsoft visual c++ library runtime error

Abnormal program termination

C:\windows\explorer.exe

I got this error on accessing my hard-drive?
It means that the explorer.exe program crashed due to some piece of information that's incorrect when you run it, rather than bad programming. This can be caused by a number of things such as virus or spyware infection or just a damaged piece of code, which can happen just be basic usage. The explorer.exe program is the shell for Windows, it's the actual program running when you open My Computer or your hard drive folders. If you're getting that error you can try running a Windows update, which may fix it. If that doesn't work you'll have to get the PC to a technician to try and replace the file with a working version and may have to reinstall Windows.

How do I make the Visual Basic 6 GUI remain responsive during a DLL call?

My employer will not spend the money to get me Visual Basic.Net. I am stuck using Visual Basic 6. I am pretty good with programming embedded C, but have no time to learn to program in Visual C++.

So I am doing some advanced programming, in VB6, using several DLL’s. I have 4 DLL’s, and two of them use callbacks. The problem is the GUI will appear to freeze during a DLL call. When the DLL returns, everything returns to normal. I have partly cured the problem by refreshing the forms, and calling DoEvents during callbacks. This works fine, unless the user clicks on a control button. The button event will not fire until the DLL returns, or during the callback. This makes the app very sluggish.

I have tried various methods of multi-tasking. Several of them work, in the IDE, but crash at runtime. The app will crash with an exception when one of the DLL’s executes a callback.

How do I make the Visual Basic 6 GUI remain responsive during a DLL call?
Not easy to follow everything you did, but I'd try something like this:

Make a worker thread that does the DLL calls. Keep or drop the callbacks. I guess you are using callbacks to signalize progress, if so you will have trouble - VB6 is too slow for that. If you're using callbacks for other things, it may be worth reconsidering them, I don't have good experience with callbacks in VB6.

The worker thread should send simple Windows Messages to signalize progress. Even in VB6 you can post/send Windows Messages.

The User Interface thread is the main VB thread, no modifications needed. To Windows Messages are trapped by subclassing some (main) window - good source code can be found for that on Internet. This read will be responsive all the time, and no risk of crashing.

C# appSettings?

in visual C#, how can i edit/read the AppSettings at runtime?

C# appSettings?
You shouldn't need to edit your application settings at runtime.

In case you need to store data that might be needed to be modified at runtime, store them elsewhere such as in a Database, XML file, or text file.

Application Settings usually contain elements which might be modified when the application is moved from one computer to another, hence it doesn't make sense to change them at runtime.

I am getting a Runtime Error in MS Word. How can I fix this? tried MS support but did not work.?

The error message (MS Visual C++ Microsoftoffice/office10/winword/exe this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.) is shutting down my MS Word and I am losing my document I am working on. I tried the MS support which recommended deselect COM add-ins to keep from loading, but this did not work. I tried looking for the normal.dot file and changing the name, but could not find this file either. I am not able to re-install Word at this time. I am desperate!!

I am getting a Runtime Error in MS Word. How can I fix this? tried MS support but did not work.?
A Visual C++ error usually indicates the error lies in a COM Add-in. COM add-ins are add-ins loaded by Registry rather than the Startup folders.

If you are unable to start Word then you should be able to utilize the Run command and the /a ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\winword.exe /a)startup switch to start Word in a troubleshooting mode which uses the application defaults and prevents add-ins from loading.

So you have tried all of these?

The following methods should help you locate the COM Add-in causing the error:

Method 1

1. On the Tools menu, click Customize

2. Select the Commands tab if necessary

3. In the Categories on the left select Tools

4. In the Commands section on the right locate the COM Add-ins… command

5. Drag/drop the COM Add-ins to a toolbar location of your choice

6. Click OK to close the Customize Toolbars dialog

7. Click the COM Add-ins command to open the COM Add-ins dialog

8. Deselect the add-in to prevent it from loading when Word starts

Method 2

If a COM Add-in is installed per-machine (all users) rather than per-user, it will not appear in the COM Add-ins utility described in Method 1. Use the following steps to determine if the add-in is listed in System Information:

1. On the Help menu click About Microsoft Word

2. Click the System Info command

3. Navigate to Office Applications\Microsoft Word\COM Add-ins

4. Review each add-in listed on the right to determine if there are COM Add-ins listed that did not appear in the COM Add-in utility

5. For those that are not listed in the COM Add-ins utility and the Installed value is Yes follow the steps in the Resolution to disable the add-in

Notes:

• The exact path for Word COM Add-ins may vary depending on the version of Word you are using.

• If you started Word using the /a switch the COM Add-ins list will be unavailable.

Method 3

You may be able to find the add-in by modifying your Macro Security and noting each add-in that loads when Word starts:

1. On the Tools menu, point at Macro, and click Security in the submenu

2. Select the Security Level tab

3. Set macro security to Medium

4. Select the Trusted Publishers tab

5. Deselect Trust all installed add-ins and templates

6. Select each Trusted Source and click Remove

7. Exit and restart Word (without using the /a switch)

8. When prompted to Enable/Disable macros note file name and location of the add-in displayed in the message box

9. If you find an unknown add-in, follow the steps in the Resolution to disable the add-in

Notes:

• Add-ins that start with F*.DLL, such as FStock.DLL, FName.DLL are for smart tags and have not been known to cause errors at this time.

• Enable/Disable macros at your discretion. They do not need to enabled to determine the location and name however they will need to be enabled in order to test your troubleshooting results.

Method 4

Use a third-party utility to view all DLLs in use while Word is running such as the Process Explorer available for download at this location:

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freewa...

1. Start Word

2. Run the Process Explorer utility

3. In the upper pane select Winword.exe

4. Locate the View DLLs command in the Toolbar

5. In the lower pane locate the DLLs and see if you can determine which DLL could be causing the issue

6. Locate the path for the DLL in a column on the right

7. Follow the steps in Resolution to disable the add-in

Note: If you find the View Handles command then you are already viewing the DLLs in use.

Resolution

1. Check Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and if you find an entry for the Add-in uninstall it

2. Use Windows Search to locate the add-in and rename it to prevent it from loading

Note: Rename the file extension rather than the file name. For example change SomeAddIn.DLL to SomeAddIn.DLLDoNotLoad

How do I get user input like text and numbres from windows forms controls using c# and visual studio 8?

I've been searching MSDN for days now but I can't find a definite answer. I know how to handle events and set item propreties at runtime but I have no clue as to how I might get a character string from lets say a rich text box control.

How do I get user input like text and numbres from windows forms controls using c# and visual studio 8?
If it's a textbox,

string strVal = txtControl.Text; // you can aldo do .Text.Trim();

If it's a dropdown

string strVal = (string) ddlControl.SelectedItem.Value;

Some objects have string properties (.Text) you can access directly and store into string variables; others have "object" types (.Value) that you'll need to cast. Then you can also convert them to other types by writing

int iVal = Convert.ToInt32(strVal);

for free-hand input, beware of conversion exceptions.

You can collect the user input either upon clicking of a button (set up an event handler for the button's Clicked event) or by handling the TextChanged or ValueChanged events of controls.

Creating event handlers is best and most accurately done via the designer.

Why everything at the bottom of my comp disappears from left to right so that i have manually turn off my comp

i have a laptop comp and whenever i am in the middle of something all of a sudden everything disapears from the bottom of the screen from left to right and there is no way to go to start bottom and open new page even log off or turn off caz is blanck.sometime this messege shows, says"microsoft visual(c+c)runtime(library)buffer overrun detected .and i say ok .then everything from the bottom disapears.i dont know what is wrong .is there anybody who can help me ?i appreciate in advance thank you all.

Why everything at the bottom of my comp disappears from left to right so that i have manually turn off my comp
It sounds like a serious conflict that is causing explorer.exe to crash.

Without good details on your system (operating system, memory, applications installed recently before the problem occured, especially) and what you have installed, it's difficult to tell what's going on, but it seems like you have a bad application or driver causing the problem.

The short answer is hit CTRL+ALT+DEL. If a box pops up, pick Task Manager. If you are in Task Manager you can go to File... New Task/ Run... and type in explorer.exe.

This will relaunch your desktop until it fails again. You'll really need to find out the source to get a long term fix for the issue though.

Runtime error message.?

whenever i try to play "splintercell double agent" it stops suddenly and microsoft visual c++ library show me the RUNTIME ERROR and close down the game automatically

Runtime error message.?
what is the error u need that todiagmose ..it could also be in ur game..problem w/ it but usualy its ur comp...repost w/ error code
Reply:i've usually had this error when some files on the game are corrupted, also it happens when the game video settings are more than what the video card can handle, also it happens when the games is downloaded off the net and not original (cracked version)

you could try adjusting video settings, or re-installing the game, it helps to know when it crashes what error message and what file it is crashing on, also try updating you directX, check game hardware and software requirements, also check game maker's website for updates.

Have trojans coming in.Pop-ups.warning Buffer overrun detected.What does this mean?HELP!!!Have McAfee Security

I have scanned and removed trojans, but I keep getting more. I have hundreds of pop-ups and computer keeps freezing up. The warning I get is from Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Buffer overrun detected has corrupted programs internal state. Program cannot safely continue execution and must be terminated. McAfee doesn't seem to be working correctly. I have scanned in safe mode and DOS. Why do I keep getting pop-ups? I have even installed a second pop-up blocker. What is happening to my computer????

the best anti virus for it is symantec

do quarantine the virus

Reply:Well, you may didn't update antivirus programm. Please do that, because, if you have this bugs, you may harm your computer. Then try. If not, then reinstal software, but C++ is never buged. i'm working in that programm.

Reply:most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

download firefox for free, Just have a try:

Good Luck
Reply:Just save everything and there's no real prob..... I've had 4 virii [viruses] and had to reformatt 6 times and get a new hard-drive; it's no biggie.
Reply:McAfee's virus scanner is not really that good. Plus, if you're getting pop-ups it's most probably spywares, which traditionally are not handled by virus scanners.

The AVG line-up of anti-virus, anti-rootkit and anti-spyware software are worth trying (http://free.grisoft.com/); also, if you're still on XP, download Microsoft's Windows Defender, an anti-spyware program that's now bundled with Vista but still available on XP.
Reply:Buffer overrun attack is a very common attack utilized by hackers. This type of attack is not new. This attack utilizes poor coding practices in C and C++ code, with the handling of string functions. The following code is an example of a buffer overrun.

void myMethod(char * pStr) {

char pBuff[10];

int nCount = 0;

strcpy(pBuff, pStr);

}

void foo()

{

}

Solution:

There are three main actions to resolve the problem. First is to utilize the /GS compile option. This option creates a cookie between the stack overrun and the return address. This allows the system to helps prevent buffer overruns, by changing the stack layout. The second action is to use the %26lt;strsafe.h%26gt; library. This library has buffer overrun safe functions that will help with the detection of buffer overflows. Finally, the last action is to perform extensive code reviews of string functionality and indexes utilized within your application

NOTE:

This is a description of buffer overruns from a programmer's perspective...I don't have the ability to troubleshoot “buffer overrun” error messages in your programs, so if you ask, that's the answer you'll get. Error messages in programs are best addressed to the product support folks for the program in question.

start - run - winword /safe

see if it starts, if it doesnt go to control panel and add or remove programs and repair your office application installation.. you might need the CD for this but sometimes the application installation files are stored on your computer... try it...

all the best...

i had same problem except for a different program, reinstall it and it would work.

You might recover some of the text if it will open in Wordpad.

If you have the original try sending it again , possibly in a zip file.

Go to http://support.microsoft.com/?id=307817 and it tells you what that message means. It comes from your Microsoft Office program and its been corrupted. Normally any Microsoft product that has a corrupted registry file will give out that message. Like IE, Office, Visual Studio, etc. Its an annoying problem.

Reply:Get yourself Vista, XP is full of bugs, its probally just starting to go. Windows is like that it is programmed not to last in order for you to upgrade...upgrade!
Reply:Most tech questions require a back and forth dialogs to answer. Is this old software that you are running on an XP machine, or vice-versa? Their is a trick to make XP to run older programs by simulating the older operating system. Right clicking on the programs icon (not a shortcut) will get you to a menu that allows you to run the program as an older OS like 98. That's the easiest thing to try first.

You can also go to the hardware makers website and get the latest drivers for the device. Also a least destructive easy fix.

There is nothing u can do, it is the SOFTWARE vendors fault for a buggy code...

So try to reinstall the app it may solve the problem.

Sometimes even a corrupted exe, or dll file or even a firewall may be a cause check them too.

Roller coaster tycoon 3 gold and platnium issues?
i had this same problem, and the problem was solved by deleting any tangent software you have on your computer. roller coaster tycoon and tangent do not go together, so you need to go to add/remove programs and delete the tangent server and any other programs dealing with tangent. once you do this, you will be able to re-download it if necessary. however in order to run roller coaster tycoon for the FIRST time only, you can't have tangent software on your computer. any other time you start it, the tangent software will not affect it though, so don't be afraid to re download it if prompted in the future.
Reply:what do you mean by tangents? Because the same thing is happening to me and it extremely annoying. Report It

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Abnormal Program Termination

Has anyone received this error and if so, can you help me solve this issue?
There is an error in the programming of the software you are using. It is not easily fixable, if you know how to write C++ then decompile the software %26amp; have a look. If you're not quite that tech savvy, try running the program again. If you continue to have problems, uninstall and then reinstall the program. If that still does not work, contact the program manufacturer for assistance.
Reply:anytime i have had errors like that, it was a virus, or spyware
Reply:Is it when you open up IE? or something internet related.. sounds like spyware, if you go to start run then msconfig. disable all except for your antivirus then restart and see if it happens again. If it doesnt u will want to get yourself some antispyware software, just go to www.download.com and search for spybot, download spybot 1.4 Good luck!

Myspace help?

Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on and how do I fix it??

Myspace help?
Myspace does not use any Visual C++ programs on their site.

There are three possibilities:

1. You added something to your profile (maybe a video or game or something) that is not working correctly and is blocking you from getting in.

2. There is a virus, spyware, or malicious program on your computer that is attempting to interact with Myspace when you try to log in.

3. Your Microsoft Visual Runtime files are corrupt and/or missing.

Options:

1. Try logging inj to your profile from another computer. If it works, it's something on your computer... if not, it's a problem on your profile.

2. If you DID add something new to your profile on your last sucessful visit, contact Myspace technical support for help.

3. Run a complete virus and spyware scan to get rid of anything on your computer that may not belong.

4. Do a search on Microsoft.com for the "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime" files. Download them and install them - it could be a corrupt or missing file that's causing your problem.

Hope this helps.

Do you have Visual Studio.net installed in your computer? I think if you get Windows XP Service Pack 2, then it fixes that problem. There is a windows update that updates your visual studio net on your computer.

I need help with internet related problem concerning Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver.?

I have Vista and I had numerous crashes with Internet Explorer 7. I had many occurances of the error "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library". I already had uninstall the google toolbar and tried to figure out what add-ons may be the problem but did not find a solution. In Vista's "Problem Reports and Solutions", it prompted me with a solution of downloading an update for Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver. I had clicked the link I was given to download Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver version 15.2.3. I had downloaded it and while installing it, it made my computer display a black screen with one blinking underscore. Then it displayed a black screen with many red, green, blue distorted little boxes together on different parts of the screen. This happened for a good 7-8 minutes. Finally, my computer turned back on normally with the installation still running for about 3 minutes and then it finally says that I cannot install because I have an "error in setup". What do I do?

and most of the system or pc cant afford to follow vista steps
Reply:vista is too young...buggy and has very few good drivers available for it...and despite microsoft boasting its secure it isnt...even before it was launched it was hacked to pieces by hackers...xp sp2+ is actually more secure at this time cos its had years to mature in the form of updates...i'd wait until sp1 for vista is available before i ever consider putting vista back on my pc again...also your laptop would perform much better with xp cos xp doesnt require half the amount of system ram or cpu power as vista does.

This behavior occurs if a program conflicts with the Mosdmn.exe and Mosearch.exe files.The Mosdmn.exe and Mosearch.exe files are part of the "Support for fast searching" feature in Office XP. This feature is similar to the Find Fast feature in Microsoft Office 2000. Fast searching uses the Indexing Service in Office XP to create a catalog of Office files on your computer's hard disk.

Method 1: Clean Boot with Only MoSearch

The Mosearch.exe (Microsoft Office Search Service) and Mosdmn.exe (Microsoft Office 10 Search Filter Daemon) Startup items may be conflicting with some other program (or programs) running in the background. Therefore, clean boot your computer with only MoSearch selected on the Startup menu to determine whether this program is the source of the conflict. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type msconfig.exe, and then click OK.

3. On the General tab, click Selective startup.

4. On the Startup tab, click to clear all check boxes except for MoSearch.

NOTE: In Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), leave the *StateMgr check box selected as well.

5. Click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.

6. If the error message can be reproduced, repeat the preceding steps. In step 3, also click to clear the Process System.ini file and Process Win.ini file check boxes.

If the error message cannot be reproduced, this indicates that MoSearch is conflicting with some other program or programs running in the background. Follow these steps to locate the conflicting program:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type msconfig.exe, and then click OK.

3. On the Startup tab, click to select one of the check boxes.

4. Click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.

5. If the preceding steps reproduce the error message, the last item added to the Startup menu is causing the conflict. If the error message is not reproduced, repeat these steps until all Startup menu check boxes are selected.

6. If all the Startup menu check boxes are selected and the error message is still not reproduced, start Msconfig again, and then click to select the Process System.ini file and Process Win.ini file check boxes.

If these steps don't help you find and eliminate the conflict, proceed to the following method.

Method 2: Uninstall the "Support for Fast Searching" Feature

To uninstall the "Support for fast searching" feature from all Office XP products that are installed on your computer, follow these steps.

Note This applies only to computers that are running Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.

1. Quit all Office programs.

2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

4. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Office XP product, where Office XP product is the name of the specific Office product in question. If you are using a stand-alone version of one of the Office programs, click the appropriate product in the list.

5. Click Add/Remove.

6. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.

7. Click the plus sign (+) next to Office Tools, point to the icon next to Support for fast searching, and then click Not Available.

8. Click Update.

9. Repeat steps 2 through 8 for all other Office XP products installed on your computer.

10. Restart your computer.

NOTE: After you perform these steps, search for the Mosearch.exe and Mosdmn.exe files. You should not find them. If you do find them, you can safely delete these two files.
Reply:right. now your adobe c++ is clashing with windows c++. it happens some time. best way remove the photoshop and re-install. if still happens then probabley need to install your windows again. because once their base files are currupted you can not repair them.

also try www.mircosoft.com/support

there might be chances that your hardware is not supporting your softwares. this often happens when you have less RAM on the system. so get that checked as well.

good luck.
Reply:Often you will get runtime errors if you haven't sufficient system resources (lack of RAM). Close all unnecessary programs then try to do your edit.

You may want to look at adding more RAM. You can see if your computer can handle more RAM by going to Crucial.com and running a scan.

http://www.crucial.com/index.asp

Also remember that everything takes RAM. Not only security products (such as active anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall) eat up memory but your operating system, active browser windows, running applications (such as Word, Gaming, Messenger, Photoshop, etc) all compete for system resources.
Reply:"An error that occurs during the execution of a program. In contrast, compile-time errors occur while a program is being compiled. Runtime errors indicate bugs in the program or problems that the designers had anticipated but could do nothing about. For example, running out of memory will often cause a runtime error.

Note that runtime errors differ from bombs or crashes in that you can often recover gracefully from a runtime error."

QuickTime 7.3.1 update fails - why?

XPpro/SP2/IE7. Installed QuickTime and checked for update in "Help" Message came: Microsoft visual C++ RunTime Library

Try disable your software firewall and antivirus while installing QT. Reinstall QT only and not the QT/ITune package may fix your problems. Make sure you run Window updateto get the latest hotfix and then reinstall QT.
Reply:I have done precisely as suggested and the problem remaims in two separate computers. The Wikipedia article is informative but doesn't guide me to a solution. I have posted questions to Apple and have not yet received a reply Report It

Reply:The FIRST thing to do is DISABLE System Restore.

If enabled, this allows malware to hide in the computer and re-install itself. To disable it, RIGHT-click on "My Computer." Select "Properties" then under the 'System Restore' tab, check 'Turn off system restore' IF not already checked.

The next most helpful things that would help you are to use ONLINE scanners from websites to remove any malware on your PC. The current best online scanners I prefer are from Kaspersky antivirus and Bitdefender antivirus. Together, these 2 scanners will find ALL the bad stuff on your PC because they have the BEST detection rate.

First, use Kaspersky's. (FYI: ALL these scans require you to agree to a EULA and install an activex control which is needed to perform the scan, so agree to them all.)

*NOTE: Some scanners ONLY work with IE or may not fully remove malware

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Then scan with:

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

There are MANY other good online scanners which you may choose to also use (which will take longer but ensure safety):

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/defau... (Windows Live Onecare)

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/ (A-squared scanner)

http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/ (ewido)

http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/pes... (Spyware scan)

http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/vir... (Virus scan)

http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/s... (Panda Antivirus)

http://www.housecall.trendmicro.com/ (TrendMicro)

http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/ (Nod32)

http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols... (F-secure)

After using these, it's ESSENTIAL to install at least 3 antispywares. Do NOT use more than 1 antiVIRUS or firewall as they conflict.

The best things in life are FREE, and great free software can be found @:

Superantispyware.com (Superantispyware FREE)

lavasoft.com (Ad-aware SE)

emsisoft.com (A-squared FREE)

safer-networking.org (Spybot S%26amp;D)

javacoolsoftware.com (SpywareBlaster)

microsoft.com (Windows Defender)

free-av.com (Avira AV)

siteadvisor.com (Tells you how safe websites are)

phoenixlabs.org (Blocks malware, government, anti-p2p org's)

zonealarm.com (Top Notch Firewall)

comodo.com (Another Top Notch firewall)

iobit.com (Advanced Windows Care)

Eusing.com (Registry cleaner)

ccleaner.com (Junk file cleaner)

Now if you can afford it, the best software to BUY are:

Spy Sweeper (VERY much worth the $$$)

Security Task Manager

Norton Internet Security

Kaspersky (BEST! =D )

Bitdefender (2nd BEst!)

F-secure (Same as Kaspersky)

Linkscanner (Blocks exploits in real time)

Advanced Uninstaller

If there's ever ONE file you suspect is infected, you can try some single file scanners which use MULTIPLE engines to scan ONE file.

They are @ virusscan.jotti.org or virustotal.com

If you're PC is squeaky clean, re-enable system restore because it IS good to have but we needed to shut it off to wipe out the malware.

Just RIGHT-click on "My Computer." Select "Properties" then under the 'System Restore' tab, UN-check "Turn off system restore."

*Another thing to consider is using another browser besides Internet Explorer. It has a lot of security holes,

making it less safe. I prefer Firefox from mozilla.org.

It's easy to use, FAST, and has a lot of neat little add-ons you can toy around with. It is also safer from exploits than IE.*

As always, things will vary. I just hope the best for everybody. I'm bound to get some jealous thumbs-down but there's only one way to find things out---try it!

Keep an UPDATED Antivirus, Antispyware, %26amp; firewall and things will be fine. And always browse wisely.

As a side note, please email me any/all websites you got the infection from or if any are popping up or hijacking you so I can help further security software's measures.

Sometimes you may get a NEW and Unknown malware and I can submit it to be blacklisted/investigated to security companies.

Hope I was able to help. If I have, please consider returning %26amp; leaving a nice comment and

Does anyone know the meaning of this error message that continually interrupts my computer ?

The message reads as follows :

MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ Runtime Library

Buffer overrun Detected

Program: C:\Windows\explorer.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corupted the programs internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must be terminated.

The only option given is "OK". When I click the "OK" box, my screen flashes and my icons and taskbar temporarily disappear and then are back. A few moments later, it happens again but won't repeat for about 30 minutes. I've never seen it and could use some help. Thanks.

Does anyone know the meaning of this error message that continually interrupts my computer ?
A buffer overrun means that a program has tried to put more info into a reserved block or memory (thebuffer ) thn will fin in the particular buffer. You may have a virus or trojan on your computer. The Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library is a dll named msvcrt.dll. do a search for that file and see if you have multiple copies. If you do, and the file dates and sizes are different, then one of them is probably bad.or altered.
Reply:Boot in SAFE MODE. Try using Windows Explorer there. If you don't get the message, then reboot normally and run some virus checking programs.

If you installed a new program recently, remove it and test your system.
Reply:I need more info in order to give some help..

What exactly are you doing when you get this error? Are you using any browsers, programs etc..??

After doing some searching what I recommend doing is going to a computer help forum such as

First grab a copy of HijackThis http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.h...

They will ask for you to run that program and copy/paste the info

I am facing two problems with my computer when I log in?

1) I get this message on my desktop.

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Buffer overtime detected!

program: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE ,

The moment i close it, desk top items disappear. I tried different antivirus software but the problem persists

2) I also get this web page HTTP 404 Not found error with IE 6, even when I switched to fire fox.

I use windows XP with SP2

Need understandable solutions, Thanks in advance.

An average computer user.

I am facing two problems with my computer when I log in?
Some of your system files on your system are corrupt or you could have a virus and or spyware on your system. First thing if would do is boot into safe mode and scan for virus. But if you don't have an up to date virus scanner, try the repair option. More info on this can be found here

http://www.help2go.com/Tutorials/Windows...

Or if you have the manufacture restore cd try it

In the worst case situation you will have to reformat the drive and start from scratch.

If you don't have an anti virus I strongly recommend you get one.

I recommend getting Mcafee ($40)

I do not recommend getting Norton

An free alternative is AVG

Mcafee can be found at most dept stores. Best buy, Walmart, ect

To download AVG Go here

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

I recommend Ad aware to remove spyware. (Free)

And/or Spybot S%26amp;D

HELP!! I keep getting this error and it freezes my computer up for a few seconds and then my taskbar..........
You def. have spyware/virus. First thing is to turn off system restore (right click my computer icon, properties) Next download or at least have 2 or 3 spyware cleaners.. Ad-aware - spybot --ect. Install and update the definitions. Also download ccleaner its free as well (this just cleans temp files/junk). Now restart your computer in safe mode, restart computer and when booting start tapping F8 key and choose safe mode. Then scan your computer with your utilities you just updated. This process may take several times of rebooting and scanning.
Reply:sounds like a trojan or worm installed.
Reply:I wouldn't have a clue what you did or didn't do, so why don't you just go for a Windows Repair? Here is the information you need for that:

Reply:What the hell? Worms Viruses? Malware? your both nuts! Checkured don't listen these fools saying viruses or malware or worms. Their just trying to act smart for their two points. It's system C driver failure. It will happen to every computer it spends all its life spinning round and it wears out. You need to get a new one. Or get a new computer. Also your computer has a corrputed file the guy who said use fix windows xp tools try that and see it might not be system c drive failure

Buffer overflow is used by malicious hackers to ruin programs. I would get help from a professional to re-install explorer.exe.
