gaim is installed as a portable app on my usb stick and has worked well for 8 months. Suddenly it's stopped working however the problem is with my pc not with GAIM.
I can plug my usb stick into other pc's and gaim works.
Have now installed the newer version, pidgin on my pc but same problem. When I try to start it, it tells me it has requested the runtime environment to terminate it in an unusual way. (message box say's microsoft visual C++).
Here is the sequence which led to it's failure:
Re-installed o/s (windows xp) due to virus.
Gaim was working.
Downloaded ie7.
Gaim was working
Found problem with ie7, kept crashing on closure.
gaim was working.
Turned off gaim.
Downloaded windows live one care, ran virus check.
No probs, turned off add ons in ie7. Ie7 now works fine.
Since doing the above gaim has stopped working.
Can anyone give me a direction to look in to find the problem.
It's deffinitely a problem with my pc, not with gaim itself.
Pc Experts please advise on GAIM/Messenger problem?

You only need to do a search on here to see how many people are having problems with IE7. The best thing to do is download Mozilla Firefox available from http://www.mozilla.com/ Its faster, more user friendly, easily customisable to suit your needs and no problems.
Reply:Just uninstall and reinstall.
Reply:This is typical if you have any toolbars installed for IE. Are you using Google's or Yahoo's? If so, remove them and see what happens.

most likely, you have a spyware. Try downloading ccleaner from download.com, and fix your registry.
Reply:go to www.pandalabs....on the left is a green box...its an online scanner...click it...tou will have to alow the d/load of a small plugin...it will then scan your pc and inform you what is wrong...its an excelent service
Reply:that is very strange thats not a listed message. I think you have a virus.
Reply:Just check your hardware, maybe something new software been added or detected. Just call a technician for a help or if theres a procedure to adjust that just follow for better result.

Computer memory help?
Ok, I have a DELL Inspiron 600m laptop and recently I have been getting messages that say "Windows Low on Virtual Memory".
Then today I was trying to type something up in Microsoft Word, and a message came on the screen that said " Microsoft Visual C++ Library" as it' title and then it said "Runtime Error! Program : C: \Program Files\Microsoft Office\ Office 11\ WINWORD.EXE , abnormal program termination.
I deleted some programs and things, but that still didn't work. Does anyone else have this problem or know what is wrong? What should I do?
Computer memory help?
Try switching off some of the icons on the lower right of the screen! You may be running too many programs at once! If not, check your RAM count in MY computer! What is happening is your computer is trying to use memory from your hard drive! You may have a small hard drive, so utilize it well! If you have less than 512MB of RAM, try to get it to that number at least. Try to think about the programs that you really don't need, and uninstall them! Music videos, music, movies, pictures etc, think about those too! You more than likely can be suffering Internet clutter with temporary files, so go into the control panel, switch to category view and go into performance and maintenance . Clean your hard drive up! The number one reason why most computers slow down and start acting funny, is the lack of maintenance. Take care of your computer, so you can enjoy it for some time to come!
Reply:Increase the size of your pagefile. Here's how: Right-click on "My Computer" and click "Properties". Click the "Advanced" tab, and under "Performance" click the "Settings" button. Under the "Advanced" tab, under "Virtual Memory" click "Change". Here you can change the size of your pagefile. Choose a custom size and make it larger than your current settings. I'm not sure if it matters, but try to make the numbers a power of two. For example, 256, 512, 1024, 2048. This should eliminate any error messages about virtual memory.
Reply:Sounds like your machine is coming to the end of its career.
Your Hard drive may be failing. (common file access errors.)
Your Ram ma be failing (normally that results in a BSOF.)
Hard drive space is at a premium and the system has no room to write the swap file.
Desk errors are part of hard drive failure. (back up your personal files and reinstall to a new hard drive)
Regardless back up your personal files
Reply:you have to much software running at one time is the problem you need to buy more ram put more in the pc then you can run a lot of software at the same time
Reply:wat u need to do is buy more RAM which makes ur computer faster and able to run more programs at once.,.. when RAM(basically called virtual memory) gets low ur comp starts to go slow and cant run many programs at once so if u get more RAM and maybe some more hard drive space you should be fine.. hope this helped ya
Reply:You must upgrade your computer memory module
I believe you should get at least 1GB and that way you will definitely wont get that message

How do I save in Visual Basic?
First off, I don't want people criticising me about my title, I made it like that to attract more people.
Anyways, my question is, how can I specify where I save a text file (notes.txt), by typeing in the path?
So instead of
C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Pictures\notes.txt
I would like to change the file to this the location bellow...at runtime.
C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\VB Files\notes.txt
This is my original code:
Private Sub cmdSave_Click()
msgsave = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to save? Any previous data will be deleted.", 4 + 48, "Save?")
If msgsave = 6 Then
Open "C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Pictures\notes.txt" For Output As #1
Print #1, txtNotes.Text
Close #1
End If
End Sub
So I need a (possible simple) way to save my file to a new location anytime I want to while the program is running. If you have any questions just post them and I'll try to answer
How do I save in Visual Basic?
Here is some working code I wrote in VB5 (but it should work in v6). It opens a SAVEAS dialog box and defaults that dialog box to an INI type file. Then it writes specific info. to that file.
Private Sub Do_SaveConfig()
' Set CancelError is True
CommonDialog1.CancelError = True
On Error GoTo ErrHandler
' Set flags
CommonDialog1.Flags = cdlOFNHideReadOnly
' Set filters
CommonDialog1.Filter = "Config Files" %26amp; "(*.ini)|*.ini"
' Specify default filter
CommonDialog1.FilterIndex = 1
' Display the Open dialog box
CommonDialog1.ShowSave
' Display name of selected file
fn = CommonDialog1.FileName
If Dir(fn) %26lt;%26gt; "" Then
Kill fn
End If
fHnd = FreeFile()
Open fn For Output As #fHnd
Write #fHnd, "# This file may be discarded, safely."
Write #fHnd, "# Used by AREP Circuit Visual Calculator, only."
Write #fHnd,
Write #fHnd, "Opt_DACdec", Opt_DACdec.Value
Write #fHnd, "Opt_GainDACdec", Opt_GainDACdec.Value
Write #fHnd, "Opt_VoutV", Opt_VoutV.Value

Write #fHnd, "Txt_Vbias", Txt_Vbias.Text
Write #fHnd, "Txt_Vref", Txt_Vref.Text

Exit Sub
